Official Push Gmail still a little slow even one month after launch

Well I’m just a little embarassed right now, so I hope you don’t mind me writing to you from underneath this brown paper bag. *crumple*
I got into a small ego battle with a Blackberry user the other day and one of his main points was how awesome push email was on the Blackberry. I agreed with him, but also defended the iPhone platform – which gained push gmail not one month ago.
As I was finishing up my Elert review today, I had quite a bit of trouble getting emails to get certain messages to show up. Sometimes it took upwards of five minutes for my inbox to refresh. I thought briefly about the Gmail servers being slowed down and fired a test email at my dad’s Blackberry address. The Stupidberry vibrated even before the iPhone had finished playing its “sent mail” sound. However, when I tried to email myself, it took five minutes for the Google servers to nudge (not push) the email in my iPhone’s direction.
I’m embarassed to say that the iPhone lost this battle badly, and I think Google Sync might have a ways to go before it can really be called a Push email solution. Meanwhile that stupid Blackberry Bold is sitting arrogantly on the dining room table, physical keyboard shining like plastic Spartan abs under the evening sun.
Showoff.

(btw, is anyone here enjoying push notifications within seconds? I’ll have what you’re having, if so)
