Robert Scoble has a good post up at his Scobleizer site today, with some strong thoughts on why it ‘s going to be very tough for any of the other leading mobile players to disrupt the iPhone platform.

And his reasons “ all 85,000 of them “ are the same ones we would always vouch for on this site.  Apps. Scoble points out that even if a super hot new Android device came along “ one that offered a sharper screen, much better battery life, a slimmer profile, and even cost $50 less than the iPhone “ he would probably not switch away from the iPhone.  Because of apps.

Why not?

Because I ‘ve grown addicted to Tweetie. So, now you ‘ll have to build an app, or get a third-party developer to build an app that works better. Let ‘s say you do that.

But do you have my favorite game? Tap Tap Revenge?

Do you have Facebook? Do you have Photoshop? Just today NASDAQ came out with a cool new app. Do you have that? And so on and so forth.

Every app is lockin.

I ‘m not going to be switching anytime soon, and neither are you.

Needless to say, I agree wholeheartedly.  I feel like the iPhone platform vs. all the rest lends itself to an old sports analogy.  The one where an individual “ say Mike Tyson at his peak “ or a team, can only really beat themselves.  There ‘s nobody / no other team right then that can beat them if they play to their potential.  I feel that ‘s how things are for the iPhone platform right now.  I don ‘t see any of the others stepping up with anything that will make their platforms that much better than iPhone, so good that it bridges the current huge gap, headstart, and inherent advantages (e.g. iTunes) that Apple has.  So really in order to have one of the others surpass them, Apple needs to make stupid decisions for quite a while and ‘beat themselves ‘.

The only place I ‘d disagree with Scoble is that the number of apps available has risen above 85,000 now.  It was over 92,000 as of yesterday.
