Orbit Selling Well & Winning Praise from Brilliant Personages

Orbit has been available a full week now, and has performed phenomenally in the market. It’s about to cross the 50,000 users mark

That ‘s an excerpt from a blog post by Steve Troughton-Smith, the creator of Orbit, the interesting Expose-like app for the iPhone that we posted about last week. That really does seem like phenomenal success to me.  50,000 users within a week, for a jailbroken app and knowing that jailbreak users only represent around 8% of all iPhone users, seems hugely impressive.

Here ‘s hoping that the majority of those are proper, paid users and not pirated copies.

Equally impressive to me is that the app has drawn praise from the brilliant Stephen Fry:

Orbit has been received positively in the media, too, although the highlight of my week was getting the great Stephen Fry to use Orbit. From his e-mail to me, he said

"Smooth and stable and genuinely useful. It ‘s there on my dock, the first app ever to deserve a place there "

That ‘s very high praise, from a guy who is a huge gadget freak, a long-time Apple fan, writer of a superb tech column for The Guardian, and a smartphone and mobile device expert and all-round genius type.

One last bit of good news from Troughton-Smith ‘s blog post is that a new version (which I believe is meant to include home button support) is due out next weekend.
