Desert Island Apps – Number 5, with Corvida Raven

DIA

Today we ‘re continuing our series called ‘Desert Island Apps ‘.  It ‘s based on a very long-running and brilliant BBC Radio show called ‘Desert Island Discs ‘.  The premise of Desert Island Discs is simple and wonderful “ a guest is invited to choose the eight musical pieces (originally records) they would take with them if they were stranded on a desert island.

In our case of course we ‘re not interested in our guests ‘ choice of music.  What we want to know is which six iPhone apps they would take with them if stranded on an island. We ‘re leaving the playing field pretty wide open for them “ letting them assume they ‘ve got WiFi and full connectivity on their island.

I ‘m very happy to say that for today ‘s post we ‘ve got Corvida Raven as our ‘guest ‘.  Corvida is a professional blogger, a social media consultant, an uber social geek, and a real fun and insightful presence on the web “ and all at the tender age of 22!

Here ‘s just some of what Corvida ‘s up to on the web these days:

You can find out more about Corvida, and how to follow her on Twitter and Friendfeed and everywhere else, at the About page at her excellent Shegeeks site, which is HERE.

And here are Corvida ‘s picks:

1. Tweetie 2  Tweetie2

…or any Twitter client for that matter, but I would prefer Tweetie 2. A deserted island is going to be so boring without the proper Twitter tools. It would probably be my only means of "real-time" communication.

2. Monopoly  Monopoly

I never get tired of playing this game. Monopoly is a classic no-brainer when I need to take a break from tweeting. It’s great entertainment as boredom is sure to set in on a deserted island.

3. Brightkite  Brightkite

If the island is deserted, then I need to make my own map. A geo-location app is a must so that I can mark up the island with as much meta data as possible, especially since I won’t be able to make any signs.

4. CNN  CNN

My news app of choice for keeping up with the world, even when I’m not stranded on a deserted island.

5. MxTube   (out of date “ use Cydia store) MxTube

This is more of a jailbreak app, available in Cydia. With MxTube, I can use this to not only watch Youtube videos while sipping coconut juice, but also download them for later viewing. It’s the closest I can get to Netflix.

6. Safari Mobile (built in)

For everything else…

Huge thanks to Corvida for doing Desert Island Apps with us!  I hope to make this a regular series “ and I hope it will help all of us to discover some great new apps.
