Acrobits, the company behind the excellent voice-over-IP iPhone app, Softphone, is celebrating their 1 year anniversary. In celebration of this achievement, which is a great achievement considering how difficult the iPhone app development world is these days, Acrobits has provided us with 10 (that’s right – TEN!) promo codes to give away!
Wait! There’s more! In addition to giving away ten promo codes for Softphone, I should bring to your attention that for anyone who is looking to get this app and who doesn’t win a code, Acrobits has dropped the price of Softphone from $6.99 down to only $2.99 during their anniversary sale (app store link). But this low price won’t last long, so make sure to grab it up now while it’s cheaper! That is if you don’t win a free copy from us! 🙂
If you’re not familiar with Acrobits Softphone, check out my review from earlier this fall here. Basically, Softphone is an app that allows you to make voip calls using an existing SIP account from your iPhone over a wifi connection. Incoming calls to your SIP number (if enabled) are pushed to Softphone using push notifications.
Contest Deadline: Saturday, November 21, 2009 5:00pm US Pacific Time.
Details after the break…
How To Win:
*** Just add a comment (detailed below) to this post, making sure to fill out the ’email address ‘ field correctly (don ‘t worry, it won ‘t be displayed and we won ‘t use it for any other reason than to contact you if you win) “ and you ‘re in with an entry for our random drawing of winners on Saturday.
*** Your comment MUST include two things: (1) list your favorite feature of Softphone, or what feature you’re most looking forward to if you win it, and (2) list a feature you’d most like to see in a future upgrade. We’ll be passing this information on to Acrobits, so your comments count! Your comment needs to include these two details to be counted.
*** Please Note: The promo codes are only available for the US App Store, so you will need a US-based account to make use of them “ keep this in mind when entering the contest.
*** Additional Note: Acrobits Softphone requires a SIP account to function. If you do not currently have a SIP account, you will have to create one with a VoIP service provider prior to being able to use this app. Refer to Acrobits ‘ website for more details.
*** Additional Note 2: Acrobits Softphone will only function over wifi. Due to limitations imposed by the Apple iPhone SDK, VoIP calling is not permitted over 3G or Edge wireless connections.

I really like the stylish user interface…a suggested feature would be to have a voice memo function that could mms or email wav/mp3 to myself or another user…..
….or a native answering service which will record voice mails locally to the iPhone……when call comes in…an alert pops up that gives the option to record locally to phone……so i need not dial out to voice mail…..

Favorite feature is definitely the in-call recording function. I always record kickoff meetings with clients in case I have to refer back to some crucial information during the life-cycle of a project. I have to say, though, that being able to receive incoming calls when the app is not open would be my preference. If they indeed come out with some kind of push capability to allow for that, then I'm sold.
My favorite feature is the bluethoot support. Works perfect!
I would love to have the possibility to send the recorded calls by email.
1) Recording function seems excellent
2) Future support for 3G would be nice
I'm looking forward to using the new push feature — which was one of the reasons I've held off purchasing until this new version.
A feature I would like to see added — and I'm not sure if this is possible — is support for vonage accounts. I have home service and would love to be able to use that account to make and receive calls when I'm away.
Thanks!
Were the winners announced? Didn't want to miss out on the promo price if I didn't win. 🙂 Thanks!
