I had never actually heard of Poddee before I checked out their screen protectors, but one thing I found notable off the bat was the price: while they’re still pretty expensive for pieces of plastic covering a glass screen, the Protective and anti-reflective (anti-glare) covers sell for under 9 USD each. I’m no big expert on these products, but they did strike me as being a little more affordable than the popular PowerSupport shields I hear everyone talking about, so I decided to give them both a quick trial run.

Installation
Each film comes with one or two covers to preserve them before installation, and taking them off is just a matter of peeling away the sticker in the corner (the screen protector equivalent of “pull my finger”). These protectors are thin, but they’re more like plastic sheets with some rigidity, as opposed to the flimsy films in products like the InvisibleShield. I’m not sure if I prefer installing films or sheets more, but if screen protector installations are something you find daunting, then these sheets might be a good place to start. I simply laid the piece over my iPhone, aligned the home button and speaker as best as I could, and used a credit card to smooth out the bubbles. If dust gets stuck underneath, you can use one piece of tape to lift the sheet and another to remove the speck of dust.

Protective Cover – $7.40
This one doesn’t even have a name, but it’s probably the equivalent of those crystal or crystal clear films you’ve seen from other brands. It preserves all of the gorgeous colour of your iPhone screen, but it’s even more of a fingerprint-magnet than a naked 3GS screen, since it lacks an oleophobic coating. My experience with the regular protector was marred by a few markings after the application that I couldn’t remove. These weren’t specks of dust or air bubbles, but rather scratch marks seemingly underneath the plastic (on the side touching the screen). It also just attracts way too many fingerprints to be of much use for me.

Anti-Reflective Cover – $8.89
This is the one that’s really worth your money. It does seem to dull the colours on the phone a little bit, but the different texture makes a huge difference. Glare is visibly reduced (harsh and bright reflections are softened into a nice glow on-screen) and I found the device much easier to use, even with sweaty hands. I used this one for about two weeks and I’m sure it could stay on for months on end without needing a change, as long as you’re careful not to scratch it.

Both screen protectors can be found on Poddee.com. I received my free review samples straight from Poddee, but it looks like they offer free shipping. This means you should be able to hook your iPhone with an anti-reflective cover for under 10 USD.

The screen covers were provided by Poddee for review on Just Another iPhone Blog. For further information regarding our site’s review policies, please see the “About” page.
