Apptizr, an online iPhone application discovery site, has launched its public beta. Previously in a private beta, it is now available to anyone for free. The goal of the website is to provide its users with App Store recommendations based upon your unique likes, interests and tastes. I had a chance to use the website recently and was quite impressed.
The initial sign-up on Apptizr can be a bit time-consuming, depending upon how much time you’re willing to put into it. The more information you provide Apptizr with, the more accurate the recommendations will be. It took me about 10 minutes to get through the initial account registration and preferencing survey. That wasn’t too bad. Immediately after signing in, you’re presented with a welcoming “Recommended Apps for” screen which gives you a, rather complete, list of recommendations. You also have the option to tell Apptizr which applications you already have, giving them even more knowledge into your application preferences. Finally, you’re able to tell Apptizr whether or not you “liked” an application and it will adjust its recommendations accordingly.
I received some really good and thorough recommendations from the site. A lot of the recommendations were applications I already had, so that had me very impressed. After giving Apptizr more ideas about what applications I already had, its recommendation list refreshes and gives you new applications it thinks you’d be interested in. Also, Apptizr will e-mail you weekly application recommendations, based upon how much it knows about your likes and interests. These are very useful when you find yourself craving something new on your iPhone.
It’s a very clean and user-friendly site to navigate. The application description pages are memorable if you’ve used the AppStore on your iPhone or in iTunes. It provides, ratings, pricing, descriptions and screenshots.
