Many of us tend to think of our iPhone ‘s camera as the ‘improptu ‘ camera that is called into service when you want to take a picture but didn ‘t bring a ‘real ‘ camera with you.
I was guilty of that as well; having not only a ‘pocket ‘ Canon Powershot camera but also professional Canon digital cameras with professional lenses, I certainly considered the iPhone ‘s camera as, well, an afterthought, really. Handy to have, to be sure, but not what one would use for serious photography.
Boy, was I wrong.
I recently stumbled upon the wonderful site iPhoneography “ which focuses, as you might guess, on photography using the iPhone and the myriad photography Apps for it. There, I discovered a showcase gallery of images made by Tony Cece “ and they are stunning. Not just for their photographic qualities, but also for the fact that they were made with an iPhone and a handful of two and three dollar Apps.
Now, I realize that the iPhone camera is only 2 or 3 megapixels (depending on which model you own), and thus both the camera and the resulting images won ‘t be useable for many professional tasks. But for an artist who wishes to capture the real world for display in the online one? It ‘s certainly possible, as Tony ‘s body of work demonstrates.
Tony ‘s work, in an instant, both humbled me and opened my eyes to the very real possibilities of photography with the iPhone. Here ‘s a few samples of his work intended to demonstrate how wonderful Tony ‘s work is, to inspire you, and to whet your appetite for the rest of the gallery posted here on iPhoneography.
Have you been using your iPhone camera for more than shooting snapshots of your friends at the local bar? We ‘d love to hear your experiences (and maybe get a link to your work) in the comment section.
