Apple to Sell 10 Million iPhones This Quarter?

More important is the citation of the claim that Apple is expected to sell 10 million iPhones this fiscal quarter. This of course, is more than the 7.4 million iPhones Apple shipped last quarter. This new estimate is still more than recent analyst estimates that expect Apple to ship between 8-9 million iPhones this quarter.

Taiwan’s smartphone IC [integrated circuit] shipments reached 116.97 million units in the third quarter of 2009, up 30.9% sequentially, and market value amounted to US$613.7 million, up 32.0% sequentially, according to Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC). In the third quarter of 2009, sales of the Apple iPhone 3GS far exceeded expectations, and sales are expected to reach 10 million in the fourth quarter of 2009. iPhone chip suppliers have benefited from this development.

This should come as no surprise as Apple has recently added China and South Korea to the list of countries the iPhone is officially available in.

What makes this number especially amazing, is that Apple upon the introduction of the first iPhone in January 2007, planned to ship 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008; a goal the company easily reached. Now the company is selling nearly that many each quarter, demonstrating rapid growth.
