Earlier today I decided to take a break and give the newly released Skies of Glory a try. It’s a sorta-free WW2 aerial shooter that includes a 10-mission campaign, as well as local and global multiplayer. The catch is that the multiplayer aspect is only free for a little while, and you’ll have to pay $2 to access it after that (and I’m not completely sure that’s a one-time cost).

Skies of Glory is developer SGN’s successor to F.A.S.T, the online airplane shooter that features modern planes. Don’t be fooled, though — despite the older setting, Skies of Glory looks much better than SGN’s previous games. It’s actually right up there with HAWX and Ace Combat XI (review here). The responsiveness of the planes is incredible, and the free 10-mission campaign is pretty impressive — especially when you consider other games like Ace Combat cost $7 and feature only five. I’m also loving the raw feeling of gunning other planes down, instead of waiting for a lock-on and letting a heat-seeking missile do all of the work.

I expected to only play the game for 10 minutes or so, but before I knew it I was in an online match racking up frags and half an hour had passed. I’ll write up a more thorough piece after I finish my HAWX review, but Skies of Glory is definitely worth a look!
