It’s that time of the year again when your memory can get the best of you. While you’re out and about doing your Christmas shopping the last thing on your mind is remembering where you parked your car, but let’s face it: sometimes we forget. Enter your parking savior, Park’n Find. Available for $0.99 in the App Store, this application gives you the peace of mind in knowing you’ll be able to navigate the cluttered mall parking lots like a pro.
Park’n Find utlizes Google Maps to determine your GPS coordinates for your parking spot and navigates you back in a very slick and helpful way. The first screen you’re presented with gives you the option to mark a new parking spot or read the instructions. Choosing to mark a new parking spot will tell the application to use GPS to first find your current location. A very clever meter is displayed at the bottom of the screen to indicate the strength of your GPS signal. The better the strength, the more accurate the result. For me, the process of determining my GPS location took less than 30 seconds. Once you’ve got your GPS location pinned down, you have a few other nice options: you can take a picture of your parking space, add a voice memo, set an interval for a meter reminder, and even add your Level/Section/Row/Spot for a parking garage or labeled parking lot.

The camera option opens your Camera and adds the picture directly into the parking spot tag. Also, the voice note is built right into the Park’n Find application and is very easy to use. The meter reminder and Level/Section/Row/Spot are all laid out in a slot-machine type fashion. Once you’re finished adding in all your options, you’re done!
So, you’ve finished all your shopping and you head out of the mall, but realize that this isn’t the way you had entered. Fire up Park’n Find and simply tap on your parking spot under the list from the main menu “Recent Parking Locations.” This launches a new screen that finds your current GPS location and displays it on a map (in blue), along with the marked parking spot from earlier (in red). There are two really impressive things about this part:
First, you have a directional compass arrow at the top right hand side of the screen that points you in the direction you need to walk. Pretty cool. Please note: The compass will only display if you’re using an iPhone 3GS. Secondly, the map actually updates your position as you walk and even performs an automatic zoom when you get closer to your marked parking spot (making it easier for you match up the visual on the map with your current surroundings). Also on the screen is the time you marked your parking spot, distance from your parking spot, and the address the GPS location determined.

Overall, I think they did a really great job with this application. It’s smart, intuitive and useful. My only concern is if it’s really worth all the detail you can put into it. I mean, do you really need a picture of your location and a voice memo? Perhaps I’ll understand more of the underlying options as I get more used to the app. I cannot really see someone sitting in their car and entering all this information for a simple parking spot. You can easily spend a couple of minutes entering in parking spot information if you utilize all the options. However, the additional options are nice and help Park’n Find stand out from the plethora parking applications available in the App Store.
You can find Park’n Find now in the App Store for $0.99.
