MacRumors is reporting that Apple has submitted a patent indicating that the company is looking into ways to track user’s music playback habits, and in turn tailoring their experience to those habits. In short, this feature would track user’s settings and preferences for things like start time, volume, equalizer settings etc, and apply them automatically in the future.
Here is Apple’s example:
For example, the usage metadata may indicate that a user skips, on average, the first 22 seconds of a particular song so the next time that song is played, the first 22 seconds will automatically be skipped.
in a diagram, Apple suggest that frequently skipped songs might be obscured compared to the other songs the user prefers.

In a seperate patent application, a new feature to the iPhone and iPod touch would actively gauge the devices battery life and determine if there is enough remaining juice in the battery to watch the selected media. If there isn’t enough power, the user could be prompted with options to degrade video settings or lower backlight intensity. Then the user could simply continue as before, or alter the settings.
The System Does not Have Sufficient Power for Playing the Entire Selected Video Segment.
Choose “Adjust Settings” for Lowering Power Consumption or Otherwise Choose “View Video” to View Selected Video for the Remaining Time.
Looks like Apple is thinking of the frequent travelers among us.
