I love a good iPhone App Store success story. We see more than enough stories about crazy rejections and approvals, flat-out stupid policies, and hard times for developers struggling to make a living “ and heck we cover some of those as well “ but it really is great to occasionally see good news.
Good news like independent, smaller studios making a big splash in the App Store “ as Tapulous and Lima Sky are clearly doing. Tapulous “ who make the immensely popular Tap Tap Revenge series of games “ are apparently pulling in over S1 million per month from App Store sales! And Lima Sky have just passed the one million downloads mark for a single app of theirs, Doodle Jump.
Calling Tapulous a ‘smaller ‘ studio is a very relative term, as they are up to 20 employees now “ but compared to the likes of Electronic Arts and some of the giants we now see focusing a lot of attention on the App Store I think it ‘s still a fair one.
Another crazy number that jumped off a page at me over the weekend is that Tapulous has recorded over 20 million downloads. Check out Gizmodo ‘s post HERE for more details on Tapulous ‘ huge success.
Lima Sky ‘s success, reported on recently by Mobile Crunch, is perhaps even more of a ‘feel good story ‘:
Lima Sky isn ‘t some huge development company “ they don ‘t have a massive advertising budget, a team of artists, or PR flacks to do their bidding. Lima Sky is made up of two brothers, Igor and Marko Pusenjak, who do everything from writing the code to reaching out to the media. With each of the 1 million copies sold at 99c a pop, the two brothers are probably swimming around in about $690k after Apple took their cut “ not too shabby for a two-man operation.
See the Mobile Crunch piece HERE for more details on Lima Sky and Doodle Jump ‘s great success.
Here ‘s to seeing lots more of these success stories in 2010 🙂
