I didn't track memory usage during that day – but I did look at that quite a bit before doing my first post on ProSwitcher. See this post for some details of RAM usage with 10-15 apps running in the background:

Good point on the lack of usage for calls. I did actually take one call during our trip home, but it was a quick one, so I didn't even think to mention it.

Like you, running PogoPlank and background apps is the main reason I'm jailbroken.
