AutoStitch for iPhone updated to 2.0: higher res panoramas, faster stitching!

AutoStitch 2.0

Here’s one of my favourite kind of updates: the kind where the app you loved before gets faster and betters at its job and you get to throw impressive statistics at your readers. AutoStitch 2.0, my current app of choice for panoramic shots, is now so fast that a four-shot panorama of my living room took about two seconds to create. The older version took about 5-10 seconds on my 3GS.

Panoramas composed of 16 shots still take about 20 seconds, but the results show up quickly enough that it’s not a drag waiting for them to appear (it’s a lot like watching a photo develop right before your eyes). My 16-shot panorama wasn’t expertly taken, but it was huge at 2328 x 2146 pixels, which is close to the size of a normal 3MP iPhone 3GS picture.

The final bit in the update is a viewer and cropper right within the app so that you can see and edit your work right after it’s done. I’m pretty sure this feature existed before, so it was probably just updated to deal with the higher resolution stitches.

To celebrate the release, Cloudburst Research has AutoStitch on sale for $1.99 — that’s $1.00 off the regular price, or 33% if you like percentages.
