Docs to Go Premium

A long time ago I used a device that was engineered by HTC, but loaded with lackluster Microsoft software. It was called a Windows Mobile device, and even though it did a lot of things very, very slowly, it did get a couple of things very right. One of those things was the ability to receive an email attachment, make changes to it, and then shoot it right back in my own email reply. As awesome as the iPhone is, there hasn’t been “an app for that” until now – and I’m not even sure that this is the ideal solution business iPhone users have been waiting for.

Docs to Go Premium ($14.99) can now edit Powerpoint files, but the real kicker is the claim to support Gmail attachments. I heard this news over on The iPhone Blog, and the comments over there have been a very interesting read. Furthermore, you only have access to messages in your Gmail folder with attachments – so you can’t reply to a message and add a word file to it.
I don’t have any experience with Docs To Go on the iPhone – I’ve taken this info from TiPB comments, but it’s not looking too good for Gmail attachments on the iPhone. I’m thinking we’ll have to wait for a proper jailbreak solution or Firmware 4.0 for the flexibility that users need. This API’s currently available to developers just don’t seem like they’re enough to get the job done properly.
