This is the stuff you start keynotes off with. Steve Jobs walks up to center stage, takes his iPhone out, logs onto the wi-fi network that the Parrot AR Drone generates, and then pilots it right into the faces of the bloggers he doesn’t like. Everybody — especially the guys who were just hit in the face by a flying iPhone-piloted drone — will be floored.
The keynote scenario probably isn’t gonna happen, but the lucky people over at CES right now are apparently seeing this drone do its thing live above the floor. According to the excellent video featurettes, the Parrot AR drone should be easy enough to pilot. You tilt the iPhone forward, use buttons on-screen to adjust height, and turn by tilting sideways. You see everything through the drone’s eyes on-screen, and the plan is to actually make games for this platform. I’d actually be happy enough to just pilot the thing around the house, but if they could come up with some sort of awesome multiplayer duel between two flying drones (which is where the augmented reality bit comes in), then I’d be willing to try that, too.
I haven’t seen anything about pricing yet, and it doesn’t even look like there’s a projected release date aside from “sometime in 2010”. Game developers can apparently already start preparing for the Parrot platform, but the rest of us will just have to keep an eye on the YouTube channel or Parrot.com for more news.
