I love days like today. Days where I try a new app and know within one minute or less that it ‘s a great app, an instant favorite. Flickit Pro is just such an app. This is not a review post “ though I ‘ll definitely get to that soon. This is just a very quick first impressions post, as this app, to borrow a bit of super cool web speak, is just so full of WIN.
I ‘ve been a fan of its predecessor, Flickit (free) for a long while “ it is a great app for uploading content to Flickr quickly and easily. Flickit Pro is much, much more “ it ‘s a full-featured Flickr app that runs rings round the ‘official ‘ Flickr app.
Here are some details on the powerful and broad set of features offered by Flickit Pro:
Flickit Pro includes all the basic features you’d expect in a full-featured Flickr app:
* View your photostream, sets, tags, favorites, and groups
* View your list of contacts and see their photostream, sets, tags, and favorites
* Get details on photos, including comments, and add new comments
* Upload photos and video
* View Flickr Videos
* Perform keyword searches on photos
* View nearby photos
* Explore Flickr’s Interesting photosIt doesn ‘t end there. Flickit Pro introduces several innovations you won ‘t find in any other Flickr app on iPhone:
Photoflow
View Flickr in a whole new perspective. Photoflow turns any photo stream into a rich, immersive viewing experience. Swipe to advance, or turn on Tilt Mode to auto-advance by simply tilting your iPhone or iPod Touch.Nearby photos
Get inspired to find a new angle or discover hidden gems. View nearby photos on an easy-to-read map of your current location. Flickit Pro can use the GPS sensor in your iPhone to search for geotagged photos on Flickr that were taken nearby.Batch upload
Flickit Pro inherits the highly acclaimed batch uploading engine from it’s sibling app Flickit. Choose sets, tags, or groups. Set metadata defaults. Even auto-post to Twitter or other blogging services. And if you have an iPhone 3GS you can now upload videos!Infinite scroll
Loading a photostream with thousands of photos? No problem. Flickit Pro lets you scroll through the entire stream seamlessly as one single list of photos. No ‘Next Page’ buttons to distract you from browsing.Favorite contacts
Stay connected to friends and family. Admire the work of other great photographers. Flickit Pro lets you create a customized list of ‘favorite’ contacts on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Get updates from only the contacts that you choose.Mobile-optimized Flickr engine
At the core of Flickit Pro is a highly tuned and optimized Flickr query and image downloading engine. It was written from the ground up to be lightweight, fast and responsive on mobile devices like iPhone and iPod Touch.
Even after just a short while with the app, I can tell you that its features are executed beautifully. The app ‘s UI is one of the very best I ‘ve seen on any iPhone app. It manages to offer easy access to this great set of features, while being completely intuitive to use and navigate around “ and is lovely and elegant all the while.
Just a few quick examples of what ‘s to like:
It ‘s got a good ‘Explore ‘ section to browse and discover content
Browse through individual images in various ways, including simple swiping left and right to move back or forward within a set
Check out photos from near your location
And the Photoflow viewing mode is excellent
Oh, and of course the app includes all the Flickr uploading power that Flickit has always had, so you can easily upload your images to Flickr.
The app ‘s strapline is:
You love Flickr. You love your iPhone. You need Flickit Pro.
I have to agree. This is just a gorgeous Flickr app. As mentioned above, I ‘ll spend more time with this app and give it a review soon, but from what I ‘ve seen so far, this looks like the standard setter for iPhone Flickr apps.
You can find Flickit Pro in the iPhone App Store now, priced at $3.99.
