Bloomberg is reporting on claims made by Goldman Sachs analyst Chen, who is predicting that Apple’s upcoming next-gen iPhone will have a touch-sensitive casing along with the standard touchscreen.
Magic Mouse, a computer mouse released in October, has a touch-sensitive solid plastic shell that replaces mechanical buttons. The technology may be replicated in the new iPhone to offer touch-sensitive features on the rear of the handset, Chen said.
Chen offers no evidence for his claim other than an unidentified source, and has no clue how the touch-enabled casing would be used.
Lastly, Chen says the next iPhone will also have a 5-megapixel camera. Current iPhone 3GS models have a 3.2 Megapixel camera.
I think Chen is full of hot air regarding the touch sensitive casing, but this isn’t the first we’ve heard that the iPhone will have a 5-megapixel camera. The only thing I could see being touch based on the case would be the volume rocker, sleep/wake button, and the home button, all of which function fine the way they are and would only ad expense to the device if altered to be touch-sensitive.
