GTA: Chinatown Wars has come to the iPhone and is now present on all of the major mobile gaming platforms. The game originally debuted on the Nintendo DS, then hi-jacked the PSP, and it’s now a $9.99 premium title on the App Store — available right now.
Unlike the most recent Grand Theft Auto titles, Chinatown Wars focuses on old-school GTA gameplay, so you don’t see the world from a 3rd-person perspective, but rather an isometric top-down view. This might make it more difficult to pull off fast driving sequences and shoot-outs, but it also sounds like it might be a lot easier to navigate on a platform where every button takes up some screen space. You’ll be doing a lot of carjacking, ramming, and shooting in the game, so the control scheme is very important.
The game is made by Rockstar (no copycats here), and I’d expect all of the colourful language and content that goes with the territory. I’m definitely interested in trying the title out, so we might have a review here sometime soon. In the meantime, here’s the iTunes link.
