AutoStitch for iPhone gets major 3.0 update

AutoStitch (review) got a major update to 3.0 today, although the change log is being pretty modest about the changes. The app is now usable on the iPod Touch, provided you can get pictures onto the device. The big news here are the updates to the blending and exposure compensations, resulting in more uniform panoramic shots.

I put the app to the test with two different shots: one panorama with the stock settings, and another with every detail set to max, and the output size to 10 Megapixels. The stock settings  shot (3788×1422 – see here) is just under 1 MB and took about 10 seconds to render, while the detailed panorama (5796×1724 – see here) took the better part of a minute, and came out as a whopping 2.5 MB file. The results are subtle, but the quality in the finer panorama really shows, with fewer blurred sections and a more realistic appearance.

Oh, and the new icon is pretty kickass, too.
