He must have been very comforted having his last moments in his home with his family. No vets do that in my community — last year had to say good-bye to my friend by going to the vet's office, which she hated. God bless your family. Hope you find comfort in the support from all these people so obviously touched by your post.

It's a poem read by the late Jimmy Stewart to his dog… in front of millions of viewers on "The Tonight Show" no less. It's a 73 year-old man coming to tears while describing the relationship he had with his dog. For some strange reason, I find it comforting to know that there's no age that one becomes cynical over the unique dog/human relationship.

I will be praying for you and your family. I know it has to be hard on your daughter too. 🙁 Having had long term pets throughout my life, I can relate to the pain that is being felt by your family. One positive is that you all will always have the memories of the enjoyable times that were spent with your dog. And as long as you keep those memories alive, he'll always be with you!

I know how hard it is to lose a pet. People without pets simply don't understand how much joy they bring to our lives.

Thanks Dan. And oh yes I know that you have been through a terrible time like this, and I know what you mean about the huge void. It's all around me today and I know it will be for always. I also know Maisy and Newton were both amazing dogs and friends and family members. So sorry that both of them did not have a longer 'innings' as they would say in the UK.

Sadly I can… As you know, Maisy dying in the fall was super tough on me and continues to be a huge void in my life. I'm am really sorry for what you are going through.

RIP… Prayers go out to your family during your time of healing!!

You can never replace a lost friend like that, but it helps to go out to your local shelter and give a new one a home home!!!
