Quick Look: Bix for iPhone

From the developers at Padadaz comes Bix and Bix Lite for iOS devices.  Bix is a geometrical/puzzle game where the player must trap moving dots that are bouncing around the screen.  The main goal of the game is to block off at least 75% of the field.  When the player starts a new game, there is a white dot following the outline of the playing field.  The player then swipes in a direction and moves onto the playing field.  The player must then reach the outline of the field again to “complete” his drawing.  If a dot makes contact with a drawing in progress, a life is lost.

There are four different types of dots that bounce around the screen.  The dark blue dots are relatively slow moving, and respawn if the player tries to trap them.  The light blue dots are fast moving, but if the player does trap them, they disappear from the screen (which makes it easier to advance to the next level).  The purple dots, when trapped, cause all of the dots to move even slower for a time, making it easier to draw around the field without getting bothered by other dots.  In the later levels though, the slow-down time is almost unnoticeable.  And finally, the green dots, when trapped, give the player an “extra life.”  These green dots show up very often in the later parts of the game, which is very helpful.  Once you trap the green dot on a certain level, if the player “dies,” and the level is restarted, it will turn into a purple dot.

The lite version has up to the first five levels of the regular version.  If the player gets good at the game and wants more of a challenge, the player should get the full version instead of the lite, but for those who just want some quick free fun and don’t mind playing the same levels over and over, then the lite version will save some money.

Bix and Bix Lite is available in the iTunes App Store for  $0.99 and free, respectively.
