I am left handed, and have had the iphone 4 since thrusdays launch. I can reproduce the reduction in bars holding in my left hand, but have not had any failed or dropped calls (tried 20-30 times). I also repeatedly tested the 3g data connection by turning off wifi, and testing using the speed test app, with and without holding the phone. The odd thing was that in many cases, the data download speed increased while holding in death grip with 1 or no bars. the only detramental effect somtimes seemed to be a reduction in upload speed by @ 50%, but this only occured @ 20% of the time. I have also tried the iphone bumper, and can see a reduction of 1 bare holding in left hand in weaker cell areas

In reply to Mark. This is interesting and not good news. I love my iphone but it's not a very good phone which is it's primary function after all. My 3Gs regularly has no signal when my Nokia on the same network displays 3 or 4 bars. So if the 4 is even worse than the 3G then it's only a phone for big city reception and no good for someone out in the sticks like myself..

i noticed that i have the same issue (touching the metal part) with my 3G (not s) who is updated to iOS4. i never checked it before though, so i can't compare. but a bigger bother is that is slowed down my iphone, so time to wait for the iphone 4 to reach belgium, but i'll check the reviews first… Thanks for sharing !

I got my iphone 4 and the reception is a lot less than my old 3G. I have less signal in my house and have to go outside to make a call. I'm also getting dropped calls which I never had before. Really disappointed. I thinking of trying to get my old 3G out and forget the Iphone 4.
