TrophyLite Rally is an offroad desert racing game and is based on the real life TrophyLite Racing League. It has been produced by 2XL Games, the creators of the popular games ATV Offroad and Supercross 2009.
Gameplay:
TrophyLite Rally has you racing across 15 different tracks in three game modes, circuit, rallies and stages. While the racing was fun to start with , later TrophyLite Rally just seemed to be one big time trial and, for the most part, the different game modes didn’t seem to change the gameplay much. You may see one or two other trucks on the track as you pass them, but that’s about it. The game just leaves you zooming through the terrain (if by terrain you mean smooth wide dirt roads and big open corners that offer no challenge when drifting around them) all by your lonesome.
Controls:
The controls for TrophyLite Rally are common racing controls for the iPhone – tilt the iPhone in the direction you wish to turn (drift) while accelerating by touching the onscreen accelerator. TrophyLite also has a button to control the brakes (located next to the accelerator), but I really don’t see why they included it, as i never had to use the brakes throughout the entire game and I saw no practical use for it.
Graphics:
TrophyLite Rally’s visuals are stunning — really stunning. The tracks are rather large, the TrophyLite trucks are impressive, and dirt is kicked up by opponents cars. The developers have figured out how to show alot more graphical goodness without damaging the games performance in anyway. The only problem I had with the graphics is that sometime you can see seems of where the landscape and the road join up.
Conclusion:
While TrophyLite Rally has the makings of a sellout game, it is let down by the lack of any real challenge. Races left me unsatisfied and didn’t make me want to come back for more. It’s ironic, since I feel like the creators were going for a more authentic driving simulator game, the developers let themselves down by not making more use of the brakes. TrophyLite Rally is an excellent example of what developers should aim for in terms of presentation, but, unless it becomes more exciting to play, it won’t be a blockbuster game.
