There are already a number of case manufacturers that are dancing the customizable case jig. Casemate has I Make My Case, and Uncommon allows you to create a visual pattern or picture that’s all your own. The problem with each of these solutions, however, is the horrific wait you and your iPhone have to endure while your customized plastic enclosure weaves its way through the postal system to your door (tad dramatic?).
iFrogz’ workaround for this is called MyFrogz, and it all starts right in the store (AT&T is the currently the only supported store according to the website — but this should work wherever you can find a MyFrogz branded case). MyFrogz cases are completely white in-store, and the $35 you pay up front actually goes towards two cases: the white “placeholder” case that you buy off the bat, and the coloured case that you design on the MyFrogz website. The funky thing about this service is that it has to start with the physical product. You can’t just go to the MyFrogz website and order a coloured case and wait for it to come in the mail, since the website requires a code that’s only printed on store-bought MyFrogz cases.
It’s definitely a different retail setup, but it may be more secure, since the website doesn’t seem to ask for any credit card details (just the code).
