Erictric is reporting that Apple may soon be offering engraving for the iPad. The tip supposedly comes from an anonymous Apple employee, so take this report with a grain of salt. However, such a move would not be unexpected. Apple of course, already offers engraving for their entire iPod line and has since 2002.
“From what I understand, Apple’s going to be offering customers the option to get their iPads engraved just before the Holidays roll around,” noted the source in an email to me, which oddly enough began on the topic of Apples recent move to distribute free bumpers and cases for iPhone 4 smartphone customers.
Our source cites that current high demand for the iPad has prevented Apple from offering tablet engraving, fearing slow-downs in production.
I would expect the service to be free as it is with the iPods, however, as the report notes, I believe this option has been left out for now because of high demand for the product. There simply isn’t enough time to fill customer orders at the moment.
