Marble Mixer takes the old school game of marbles and adds a modern twist to it. With three different modes of play that supports up to four players at a time, anyone even remotely interested in this game would be advised to give it a look.
It features colorful, vibrant graphics and addicting, challenging gameplay. It ‘s a great game to play on your own or, if you have a few buddies around, give it a go with them.
There are three different games to enjoy here, each featuring a unique twist on the game of marbles:
Space Mania: The object on this board is to win three rounds of games that are comprised of a spinning circle with HOW MANY score rings and a hole in the center. You get the appropriate number of points by flicking your marble on the board; or 25 points for pushing your opponents ‘ marble into the hole. Marbles are unlimited and you have 60 seconds to get as many points as possible.
Table Tactics: Again, the object here is to win three rounds. But instead of 60 second games, players only get ten marbles each round. The scoring is the same as Space Mania.
Monster Picnic: In this game, there are no score rings. There is only a hole in which you want to flick as many of your marbles in 60 seconds. Again, you win the game by winning three rounds.
All three games support up to four human or iPhone-controlled players.
The controls work as well as they should. Shorter flicks of the screen send the marble out shorter distances than longer, more forceful flicks. There is somewhat of a learning curve here as I found it took a little bit of time to time my flicks correctly. For the first few days, I would either be too short or too long, which was even more frustrating when the AI-controlled opponents were mostly spot on.
Graphics are rather simple. After all, it is a marble game. But the colors are very vibrant and eye-catching, especially on an iPhone 4.
If I have one complaint, it ‘s that the game could really use a few different levels of difficulty. Going up against the computer, who is almost perfect, can be a little frustrating to the first-time player.
Still, I highly recommend this game. The price is right, it looks and controls very nicely, and has some serious replay value. What more could you ask for?
Marble Mixer is available now in the App Store for $0.99.
