Pastebot to use iPhone’s background music API to run, well, in the background

I won’t speculate on this upcoming change to the Pastebot ($3.99) because, quite frankly, it’s just a little bit mind bending.

Here’s the gist of it, though: if all goes well with Tapbots’ re-submission, Pastebot will be able to truly multitask in the way that you’d expect, without the use of private APIs (banned by Apple) or any sort of jailbreak method (you can Background Pastebot, but it doesn’t really work like you’d think).

It all comes down to using the background music API to keep Pastebot running while consuming very little extra battery life. John Gruber of Daring Fireball has apparently been using the beta for a few weeks now, and he says it’s working beautifully.

You can check out the full story and more detailed explanation of the feature on the Tapbots blog (thanks to MacStories for the heads-up).
