I agree wholeheartedly. For me, I need
1. Calendar lockscreen
2. Quick reply SMS
3. Sbsettings functionality
4. Backup ability…. Luckily some of my key favorite apps offer Evernote or cloud sync

As you mention, I now install SBSettings, LockInfo and biteSMS for the quick reply. Previously, I was installing backgrounder, SwirlyMMS, etc. So Apple is moving in the right direction. Hiring the developer of the WebOS notification system let me hope that next version will include something close to SBSettings or even better, close to Android or WebOS notifications.

Regarding backup, I agree that Apple could let third party create a more powerful solution for geek or advanced users. But for most iPhone users, having a complete backup without worrying is what they need. It's much better than Android solution for example, where you can control what you want to backup, but need to root your phone to restore market links. For most users, it's too complicated and they just have no backup.

There's a ton of stuff more elegant than Apple's solutions. I'm glad they added the wallpapers finally, but Intelliscreen to view basic info from the lock screen, Quick Reply SMS, so you don't have to exit the app you're in to reply to messages, as well as the previously mentioned SBSettings keep me jailbreaking every time. There's something to be said for keeping your iPhone as a stock device…being able to update right away and not having to go through the hassle of having to jailbreak…but there's a couple of things that I'd rather not z do without. Not to mention Netflix on the iPhone and Facetime over 3g is just plain cool. 😀
