I'm with Jaldo. These ads make people angry & then run for the hills. You guys have done such a good job of setting up an actual dialog between authors & visitors, this just gets in the way of that. I don't know the financial realities of running a site like this, but I already see 15 different ad units on this page. That's a lot. I guess we're all blind to them at this point,

They’re way too intrusive when moving the pointer over the page and bear no resemblance to the content of the page or even the word used for the hyperlink (case in point: the ad link used on the word ‘color’ in this article shows an ad for eBay UK).
