MacRumors is reporting that Apple recent changed the App Store’s developer terms to allow developers the option of offering their applications at a 50% discount for bulk purchases to educational institutions. Apple just yesterday posted this information for the program on their site, alerting these institutions that the program is now available.
The Volume Purchase Program makes it easy for educational institutions to purchase iOS apps in volume and distribute those apps to users. The Volume Purchase Program also allows app developers to offer special pricing for purchases of 20 apps or more.
These volume purchases are processes by the means of vouchers bought on the Apple Store for Education. The vouchers come in $100, $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 amounts and can be bought by authorized educational purchasing representatives, and then sent by snail mail to the institution. Finally, the vouchers can be distributed to “Program Facilitators” to be redeemed in the App Store.
If you are interested, you can learn more information about the program here, or visit the programs webpage here.
