id achieves 60 fps with Rage demo on iPhone 4

Rage is the new blisteringly beautiful game from John Carmack and id software, the developers behind the First Person Shooter legend, Doom. The concept sounds a lot like “Fallout” meets “Twisted Metal”. The good news is that Carmack has proven his ability to really harness the power behind hardware, but I have yet to be impressed with any of id’s offerings on the iPhone (which are all on sale right now, by the way).

This Rage demo is really something else, though, and if id can give us the ability to seamlessly walk around and shoot things in the face while having the whole game world look this good, then I’ll stop wearing my Doubting Thomas T-Shirt and put on my “W00t!” sweater. However, we should all keep in mind that the iPhone isn’t id’s main platform: this game is really headed for PC’s and consoles, and all we might see is a very limited port.
