All Things Digital points to a research report from Katy Huberty, a Morgan Stanley research analyst, claiming that Apple is now producing around 2 million iPads per month, with aims to produce around 3 million per month by Q4 of this year.
Says Huberty, “Apple recently indicated to its suppliers a desire to move to 3 million per month in C4Q10. This implies a run rate of 36 million in CY11, close to the current 40 million supply chain forecast.”
If this report is true, it would go a long way to explain the rapidly decreasing wait times we saw earlier this month for the iPad. Since launch the shipping wait time for the iPad was 7-10 days, just last week, the wait time finally leveled off at “within 24hrs“.
Many questioned whether Apple had ramped up production or if demand had fallen off sharply. The way Huberty’s report makes it sound, is that Apple has pepped up production, and demand is still strong. We’ll see come Apple’s next quarterly conference call.
