Gear Diary says: Apple Bumper > Element Vapor iPhone 4 case

Damn it. I don’t even have an iPhone 4, but even I was excited about the Element Vapor case ($80).

Unfortunately, three writers at Gear Diary (Judie, Larry, and Dan) have experienced some major signal issues when using the lovely case, which is strange, since the Vapor website states:

It … creates a non-conductive barrier to help maintain the iPhone’s antenna signal strength.

As it turns out, however, that statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. Judie even went so far as to subject her iPhone 4’s signal strength to some testing over at ETS-Lindgren and found that the Vapor caused her signal to plummet, while the Apple Bumper actually ended up boosting reception a little bit (over a naked iPhone 4).
