Apple announced late last week that their iPhone 4 Case program will come to an end on September 30th, just as Apple had previously stated. This date will also end Apple’s no-restocking-fee, and 30-day return policy. The policy will then revert back to the usual 10% restocking fee on opened items, and 14-day return period.
Apple has stated however, that they will continue to offer free cases to users who are actually experiencing technical difficulties with antenna reception, but will no longer be handing out cases to everyone who buys the device. Here is what Apple has to say about the matter:
We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case.
In other words, Apple won’t be handing out cases to everyone who buys the phone, but they will give you one if you are actually having problems. Sounds fair enough to me.
