Apple Now Hiring Metal Engineers to work with Liquidmetal Alloys

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple has posted several job opening on their site seeking individuals to work with Liquidmetal’s “amorphous metal alloys” that Apple gained the rights to last month. The Positions are: Amorphous Metal Development Manager, Amorphous Metal Development Engineer, and Metal Process Development Engineer.

Here are some of the details regarding the management position:

– Managing a team responsible for developing amorphous alloy composition, molding and forming processes, and secondary operations (e.g. machining, grinding, finishing) as applicable to Apple requirements.

– Meeting all quality, capacity, logistics and cost requirements working closely with Industrial Design, Product Design and Global Supply Managers.

– Identifying, researching, developing, and qualifying world-class equipment manufacturers and suppliers.

– Managing the optimization of process capability to achieve dimensional tolerance and cosmetic finish requirements.

It sounds like Apple is pushing big for these “amorphous” metals, if they are hiring full-time staff to work with it.

That said, Apple has already used Liquidmetal’s alloys with the iPhone 3G’s SIM card removal tool. Liquidmetal also offers fast, precise fabrication, along with corrosion resistance, and strength.
