iOS 4.2 Changes iPad's "Lock Orientation" switch to a Mute Switch

With the first beta of iOS 4.2 just released a few days ago, developers have found that the “lock orientation” switch on the iPad has now become a mute switch. The lock orientation feature has been moved to the multitasking try just like iOS 4 on the iPhone and iPod touch.

The funny thing is, Apple’s original promotional material stated that the switch would be used as a mute switch, but was later changed to a lock orientation switch closer to launch.

Who knows the reasoning for the waffling from Apple on this. I would much rater see it remain a lock orientation switch.
