Review: Comic Touch for iPhone

An app that adds dialogue ballons and captions to your pics. Comic style. That’s it. Cool, isn’t it?

We expect a lot from our iPhones. We want to squeeze out every single capability of our devices when using them, often overlooking simple things that can be done that are so much fun to do. The simpleness of Comic Touch doesn’t diminish the brilliantness of it. Take a picture (or use one from your library), choose a dialogue balloon (out of four kinds) or a caption box, type your text and… that’s it.

Comic Touch also has some built-in effects, which are pretty much lenses. So you might want to edit your pics on other photo apps and then add the captions. Sadly, the app doesn’t come with a comic-like effect. That pic at the top was edited using Photo Booth on my MacBook, adding the captions with Comic Touch after that.

Editing the ballon’s direction and length wasn’t that clear at the beginning, but it sure can be done. Texts’ sizes can be changed, as well.

There is a Lite version of Comic Touch, which includes an opening screen inviting you to upgrade and less effects, and adding a discrete watermark to your photos.

Just imagine what you can achieve mixing this, some cleverness and Facebook.

Comic Touch is available at the app store for $2.99.
