iRovr Is Back & in the App Store Now

iRovr iPhone app

iRovr is a social network aimed exclusively at iPhone and iOS device users. It used to be a web app back in old school iPhone days, it faded away for a time, and now it’s back with a full-blown native app.

iRovr is all about streams.  There’s a main public stream that’s the equivalent of the Everyone timeline in a Twitter app and lots of other individual streams representing cities / areas / interest groups around topics, and so on.

iRovr on iPhone

I enjoyed iRovr in its old school days and I’m excited to see how the new app pans out.  I installed it last night and I’m already re-connecting with friends from my favorite iPhone forum – everythingiCafe – as there was always a big EIC community on iRovr.

The new iRovr app looks mostly good.  There are some definite 1.0 feeling things about it right now though.  For instance, the only way to add friends that I’ve found so far is to do so via SMS or email – using your existing Contacts. Others’ mileage may vary, but for me the majority of people in my Contacts address book are IRL friends, and many of them are not iPhone users or much into social networking.  It would be far better to have the option to add friends via Twitter or Facebook connections.

Again, his may be just me as I’m very much still in the getting to know the app stage, but I find navigation in iRovr pretty clumsy as well.  There are a lot of times where it takes more than one tap on a Back button to get back to Home or wherever I want to be.  I think it really needs a nav bar fixed at bottom or top, or some better method of getting around more easily.

Hopefully there will be some updates soon to add a little polish to the app; but even in its 1.0 form it’s very good to see iRovr back.

You can find iRovr in the App Store now, and it’s a free app.
