The XtremeMac InCharge Home is a good dual device charger for iPods, and iPhones that could have been great, if not for one small thing: the non-retractable plug (and this is, admittedly, a very subjective complaint).
But before I get to the plug, I’ll cover all of the good stuff first.
The first obvious advantage of this plug is the fact that it can charge two Apple devices at once. My household already has enough chargers, but it’s always good to be able to free up one socket.
I also think the InCharge is a fair bit sexier than the plain Apple charger, and I like having a darker cable to go with it.
The design of the InCharge Home is quite simple and unobtrusive, but only for sockets above or below the charger. Otherwise, the InCharge Home tends to block anything adjacent to it. Not a big deal for most setups, but something to take note of.
Despite the “Home” moniker, I’d say the InCharge Home is equally suited for use at home or while on-the-go (as long as you find a plug somewhere). It should be especially useful on-the-go, since it cuts down the number of chargers needed on any given trip. However, this is where I get just a little wishy washy…
The InCharge Home does feature a removable plug (you can click and slide it out — presumably so you can replace with other plug types), but I much prefer Apple’s design approach in this area, where the plug is both retractable (folds inward) and replaceable. However, this is really just me wishing that the product were a bit more versatile. I acknowledge that it says right in the name that it’s meant for home usage, where a folding plug really isn’t a necessary feature.
There’s honestly not much more to say about the InCharge Home other than the fact that it works as advertised. It charges two Apple devices at once, it comes with an extra iPhone cable for syncing or charging, and it’s best suited for vertical socket layouts. The charger costs $30 on the XtremeMac store (which is about $5 less than an official Apple charger costs).
Also keep in mind that there are other InCharge Home chargers, one of which is capable of charging two iPads simultaneously. That one costs $35.
