U.S. Customer Satisfaction Survey for Personal Computers Sees New Highs with the iPad

The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ASCI) has released a new report regarding the personal computer industry, which shows Apple’s iPad with an astounding score of 86, which is a record high, and Apple’s seventh consecutive year receiving top marks. All other manufacturer brands, except for Compaq which scored 74, all scored 77.

CNBC looked further into the numbers and found that customers were still very pleased with Apple’s products and retail experience, this year’s two point jump compared to last year, came from the inclusion of the iPad in ASCI’s numbers.

I called David VanAmburg, managing director of ACSI, to get a sense for what’s behind the scores. He told me Apple’s overall score was up slightly because people like its computers and the retail support experience – but he also mentioned that the numbers included the iPad for the first time.

He told me that the iPad, even at this early stage, pulled up Apple’s overall numbers – which makes it the highest-scoring product Apple has, and therefore the highest-scoring product ACSI has ever tracked.

Apple’s healthy nine point lead over their competitors is the largest gap between competitors in any of the industries that ASCI covers.
