I haven’t conducted any controlled experiments with F.lux, but I think it has done something to make my MacBook screen easier on the eyes (or, at the very least, on me).
As far as I understand it, F.lux is a menu bar utility for automatically adjusting the colour temperature of your screen based on the time of day. In particular, it’s supposed to help reduce the amount of blue light emanating from the display at night, which can apparently help you doze off faster if you use the computer before going to bed.
However, even if all of that sounds like a bit of mumbo jumbo, in my experience, there’s really no substitute for basking in a warmer glow at night. There’s just something more comfortable and more natural about it.
If you’d like to give F.lux a try, it’s a free download from Stereopsis.com.
