How to really delete sources in Cydia [Jailbreak]

A little while ago I wrote a little rant about the most recent Rock Your Phone update, which essentially turned the entire app into a glorified bookmark. However, all that raving ended up doing me a little good, in the form of two comments from Saurik. The second one, in particular, was an answer to the question “what do I do if Cydia keeps trying to load Sources that I have already deleted?”.

Saurik’s response from the comments was as follows:

If …Cydia really truly refuses to delete it [the source], you can destroy /var/lib/cydia/metadata.plist and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/cydia.list (the second file is automatically generated from the former, which is the canonical place where the information is stored).

I took Saurik’s advice and deleted the specified files in those folders (using SSH and Cyberduck). It’s been about a week since then and the problems that I used to experience (a.k.a. the screenshot above) haven’t returned. This change still doesn’t replace Rock in my book, but I’m grateful for the help from someone who is really in the know.
