PlainText looks a lot better than the $4.99 WriteRoom iOS app does, although it is currently a heck of a lot simpler. We’re talking just Dropbox Sync (as opposed to Writeroom.ws sync), a list of notes in alphabetical order, folder support, and of course, the ability to edit them. That’s about it. Oh, and it’s also free (iAd supported, though you can get rid of them for $4.99 — well, sort of).
As for the app: to be blunt, it’s currently far too simple for my uses. I have hundreds of notes and really need them to sort them by date modified or find them using a full text search. Anything less is just too aggravating for me.
However, the interesting thing to note here is what developer Jesse Grosjean says in the press release. He refers to PlainText as an infrastructure project — the results of which he intends to apply to both WriteRoom and Taskpaper. This probably refers specifically to the Dropbox-syncing bit, but I would love it if some of PlainText’s clean, paper-like appearance rubbed off on the Writeroom app.
