Mashable has a post up featuring a great infographic (created by the folks at Billshrink) which measures the iPhone’s true popularity via a number of telling statistics.
The thing that stands out most for me in all the stats presented is that it’s very clear that iOS and Android are the only two mobile platforms with forward momentum, all the others are continuing to lose ground.
The three numbers that caught my eye are:
— The incredible dominance of iOS in mobile apps adoption. As the infographic above shows, the share of ‘everyone else’ is tiny, tiny.
— The loyalty of iPhone and Android owners. As you can see in the screenshot below, 89% of current iPhone owners are planning to stick with it in their next phone purchase. The number for Android owners is 71%.
I’m not sure where all the data is pulled from for the infrographic (though I do know Gartner is one of the sources) – but it’s definitely presented well (and with plenty of funny Steve Jobs cartoons thrown in) and seems comparable to most recent reports I’ve seen.
Check out the full infographic over at Mashable for lots more fun numbers.
