New Apple TV Teardown Reveals 8GB of Storage, 256GB of RAM, A4 Processor

iFixit is has opened up the new Apple TV (which is now arriving in customers’ hands) and has discovered that the device is equipped with 8GB of NAND flash-based storage. Apple can get away with this because the device is primarily used to stream content instead of store it like the previous Apple TV model. Also, the new Apple TV is equipped with 256MB of RAM, which is the same as the iPad and current-gen iPod touch.

The new Apple TV also utilizes the same A4 chip that powers the current generation iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad models. The A4 chip is packaged alongside a Broadcom Wi-Fi chip. There is also an empty area next to the 8GB flash chip that could make room for addition storage if Apple chose to beef it up later. Lastly, the power supply rating is a tiny 5.95 watts. This thing barely uses electricity.

So, it sounds like the new Apple TV is based on the same software and hardware as Apple’s current mobile-iOS devices. It’s just a matter of time before the jailbreaking begins.
