New Apple TV Can Be Mounted In iTunes, Making Jailbreaking Easier

The Apple Press is reporting on the findings of Twitter user StealthBravo who has confirmed that the new Apple TV can be mounted and restored in iTunes. This will make it substantially easier for jailbreakers to alter the functionality of the device.

This means that the jailbreak community may soon be able to offer us tools, as they currently do for other iOS devices, to save SHSH blobs, jailbreak the Apple TV, and install 3rd party software. Maybe an app store for Apple TV may come sooner than any of us may have expected after all.

The Apple TV is equipped with a Micro-USB port which is intended to be used for restores and support, but could ultimately be used to physically connect the device to computers and employ hacks to introduce new software features. Besides, the Apple TV has 8GB of internal storage, perfect for software instillation.

Yes, the Apple TV has storage and connectivity for jailbreakers now, but you have to think, if Apple has put this infrastructure into the device, Apple has plans to expand the purpose of the device in the future.
