For iPhone owners, the first (and in many cases, only) personalization choice is whether or not to get a case to protect their purchase. Certainly, the iPhone is vulnerable to scratches in casual use, if not outright damage through drops and the like. IvySkin has recently released a new series of cases for the iPhone and iPad, here we take a look at the Quattro4 case for the iPhone 4.
The Quattro4 case is a full-enclosure case; meaning that it completely encloses all sides of the iPhone (minus the expected openings for the headphone jack, dock connector, etc). Silicone buttons cover the home and volume buttons. While many cases protect the back, sides, top, and bottom of the iPhone, the Quattro4 also covers the screen with excellent touch-through glass. I appreciate this; the screen is the area of the iPhone that I consider to be the most important to protect from scratches and other damage. IvySkin claims that there is no loss of sensitivity with their glass cover, and in my testing, I found that to be the case; I certainly liked the feel and minor drag much better than my less-than-satisfactory experience with the uber-noticeable InvisibleShield.
The case is a sliding clamshell design. The top and bottom of the case slide apart, allowing you to insert the iPhone (and situate the removable glass screen). The review sample I tested, however, did not latch closed terribly well, and more than once partially slid open during normal use. The case came with replacement/alternate silicone buttons for the home and volume buttons in a red color to contrast the stock-equipped black.
Overall, I felt that this case would be much better suited to protect a phone that will be expected to encounter bumps and minor drops than one of the more common open-faced cases that do not protect the screen as well. If your mobile lifestyle subjects your iPhone to such potential dangers, the Quattro4 case might be just what you’re looking for.
The Quattro4 case is $44.99, and is available at http://www.ivyskin.com/quattro4-case.html. IvySkin offers an optional credit card holder and an optional external battery pack; these were not available at review time, and no pricing information was available.
IvySkin provided Just Another iPhone Blog with a sample review case. For further information regarding our site’s review policies, please see the “About” page.
