Hardmac is reporting that Apple has “suffered significant setbacks” in it’s efforts to update it’s aging Final Cut Studio pro video production suite. The release is likely to be pushed into 2011, which is of course a delay from the rumored 2010 launch timeframe Apple was aiming for, which may lead to cut backs in the scope of the update.
A few months ago we told you that Apple were hoping to release a new version of their Final Cut Studio suite in 2010. It now seems likely that this target has been missed according to one of our sources. The development of this software suite has suffered significant setbacks and it will be necessary to wait until 2011 to see its release; furthermore, the scope of the project has been reduced.
The report goes on to say that Apple has, for at least the time being, dropped it’s plans to bring a single user interface to the suite due to disagreements amongst the development teams in how this new UI should be implemented. Thus, the interface is reportedly being delayed until the follow update of Final Cut Pro that is reportedly, tentatively slated for a 2013 release.
Additionally the report states that Apple has reassigned engineers that were previously working on the Final Cut Pro suite to work on Apple’s booming iOS platform instead.
We’ve been hearing reports about Final Cut Pro all year long. First came a report that stated Apple has laid off 40 members of their Final Cut Pro project team, it later turned out that those 40 people were in support and not engineering. Another report claimed that Apple was retooling the suite to aim more at the “prosumer” market instead of the high-end market. Apple CEO Steve Jobs later answered a customer’s email that voiced concerns over the suite, where he dismissed the idea that the suite would be aimed at the “prosumer” market, and added that the next release will be “awesome.”
In short, it sounds like Apple has put this little piece of software on the back burner in an effort to keep up with their currently booming iOS software.
